If you thought Sturgeon Falls was being overtaken by witches on Friday, October 24th, you were probably witness to the first ever Witches’ Brew event put on by the SF Golden Age Club. As part of a ladies’ night of fun and fright in the early evening, dozens of participants paraded down Nipissing Street in their finest witch costume, handing out apples before heading inside the club to enjoy some hors d’oeuvres and ‘magic potion’ in a lavishly decorated hall. Club chair Diane Beauchesne says about 70 witches took part, dancing and playing games to crown the ‘Witch of the Year.’ The event was very well received and Beauchesne says they hope to bring it back next year, as many have already expressed their desire to make it a seasonal tradition.
