This year’s Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign has once again raised a record-breaking amount of money for Community Living West Nipissing. The campaign ran from April 27 to May 3, bringing in $34,427.20 for the local organisation, beating last year’s $30,714.84.
Once again, a good portion of the cookies were pre-sold as Community Living staff and volunteers reached out to local businesses and organisations who order in bulk, many giving away the cookies just to support the cause. Of course, this means a week of intense baking at the local restaurants, as thousands of cookies are made to fill these ambitious orders.
“We could not have done this without [managers] Lise [Larocque] and Carla [Morin] and the staff at Tim Hortons as well as our many Community Living volunteers, staff and individuals we support who helped sell, bake, decorate and deliver cookies throughout the weeklong campaign,” beams a grateful Sylvie Bélanger, Executive Director of Community Living West Nipissing.
The money raised helps Community Living to fund important supports for their clients, who are often struggling financially on fixed incomes. The money goes towards specialized equipment, immediate and emergency needs, and even hobbies, helping to ensure a better quality of life for people whose benefits often don’t cover anything beyond very basic living expenses.
Bélanger posed alongside some of her staff, clients and Tim Hortons staff on Wednesday, June 3, just outside the Sturgeon Falls Tim Hortons where the donation cheque was presented.
