The West Nipissing General Hospital Foundation held its first Saint Patrick’s Day fundraiser on Saturday, March 16th. The event featured many games, a 50/50 draw, and musical performance by Roadhouse, all in support of the WNGH’s plan to update its laboratory equipment. The event attracted over 330 people and raised $17,000 in donations. “We’re so grateful that we have a very generous municipality,” says Shawn Page, WNGH Foundation Chair, adding that the event far surpassed the board’s target of $10,000.
In addition to the event total, a surprise donation was also presented in front of the cheering crowd: $50,000 from the Caisse Alliance, whom Page called “such an incredible community partner.”
Page mentions that the night was also a big hit with attendees. “If you stopped dancing for a bit, you could feel the floor moving. That’s a sign of a good night!” he laughs. Next up for the foundation is their Run for Health race, organized for early June. “For a municipality of our size, it’s nice for our residents to have such a fantastic hospital, and they don’t have to go to North Bay. They can stay home, and have access to services here,” says Page, pointing out the importance of the Foundation’s work.
