Santa visits Sturgeon Falls and Field

Santa had a busy weekend in West Nipissing, greeting thousands of revelers along the Parade of Lights route in Sturgeon Falls on Friday night, Dec. 5, then making his way to Field on Saturday, Dec. 6 for another illuminated parade followed by a visit in the Knights of Columbus hall to celebrate with the community.

Santa was last in a long procession in Sturgeon Falls, as 40 brightly lit and decorated floats paraded through town, ushering in the most anticipated visitor of all. The parade took about an hour to view end-to-end, with light flakes falling and temperatures chilly but not too cold to stay out. Along the route, people could warm up with hot chocolate or cider and other goodies offered by local businesses, and even the Grinch made an appearance, showing his newfound Christmas spirit.

In Field, the parade was just as bright and Santa even came off of his float to mingle with young parade watchers. The mingling continued at the Knights of Columbus hall, where the Field Ladies Auxiliary had tempting sweets on offer and popular characters from the parade, including the Grinch and Sparky, interacted with families. Of course, Santa was the main attraction, and every child got to sit on his lap and receive gifts, including a chocolate advent calendar. The Field event was put on the by the Field Volunteer Firefighters’ Association.
