Fifth carving to beautify Sturgeon Falls

The Sturgeon Falls Beautification committee just unveiled its fifth wooden sculpture adding visual interest to the downtown core, an extension of beautification efforts including volunteer cleaning and planting and commissioning murals and works of art to make the area more welcoming to residents and tourists. The sculptures are funded from the Marché Sturgeon Falls Market, which runs monthly in the summer.

The latest sculpture is a wolf called Reign, carved by artist Jason Bouchard, and located in front of the Audio Video and Home Furnishings store on King Street. Reign stands 5’ tall and is 4’ long, is chainsaw carved and hand painted. Reign joins wooden creations The Watcher, Minnie the Moose, Coco Bear and Gertrude and Gaston Geese, as well as the metal work Stella the Sturgeon in downtown Sturgeon Falls.

Bouchard (left) lauded the beautification committee and its chair, Gayle Primeau (right), for commissioning “talented artists and world class carvers to provide sculptures and artwork that are a permanent part of their downtown. I’m honoured to have (… Reign) as part of this group.”
