Impaired, prohibited driver charged

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged one person with impaired driving offences after conducting a traffic stop on King Street on Monday January 5, at approximately 1:45 p.m. Members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the OPP were alerted by the Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system that the registered owner of the vehicle was a suspended driver. The driver was arrested for impaired driving, then transported to the OPP detachment for further testing. Further investigation found the driver to be breaching a court order and was a prohibited driver.

Angela Lachance, age 52, from West Nipissing was charged with Operation while prohibited; Operation while impaired – alcohol; Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus); failing to comply with a probation order;  and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on February 5, 2026, in North Bay. The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Invalid plate leads to stop, drug charges

The OPP arrested and charged a driver with drug related offences after a traffic stop on Highway 17, West Nipissing on Wednesday, December 31 at approximately 11:40 a.m. Members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the OPP were alerted by the ALPR system of a vehicles’ invalid licence plate. As a result of the investigation, a search of the vehicle located drugs suspected to be methamphetamine

The driver, Connor Scott, age 30, from Levack was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on February 5, 2026, in North Bay.

ATV driver faces numerous charges

Police arrested and charged the driver of an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) with impaired driving. On Monday December 23, 2025, at approximately 8:20 p.m., the Nipissing West Detachment of the OPP stopped an ATV, which had no rear lights activated, on Larocque Street, West Nipissing. The driver was arrested for impaired driving, then transported to an OPP detachment for further testing. Further investigation found the driver to be a prohibited driver, and a search of the ATV located open liquor.

As a result, Marc-Denis St. Martin, age 53, from Field, was charged with Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus); Operation while prohibited; driving a motor vehicle with open container of liquor; driving a motor vehicle with no licence; failure to surrender permit for motor vehicle; and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on February 5, 2026, in North Bay. The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

No foul play in Au Château death

The Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has completed their investigation into a death at a local nursing home.

On Thursday September 23, 2025, at approximately 10:00 p.m., the Nipissing West OPP began an investigation at a nursing home on Michaud Street in Sturgeon Falls after an 85-year-old person from West Nipissing was found deceased by staff members.

The investigation was conducted by the Nipissing West OPP Crime Unit, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service to determine the cause of death.

OPP has determined that there was no foul play.
