Two individuals from Sturgeon Falls are facing drug trafficking charges after a traffic stop in Nipissing First Nation.
On January 15, at approximately 5:30 p.m., an Anishinabek Police Service officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle after running the plates and determining the vehicle was uninsured. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer observed what appeared to be drug paraphernalia in the front compartment. Further investigation determined that the passenger was on house arrest conditions at the time of the traffic stop. As a result, the vehicle and both the driver and passenger were searched and a quantity of crack cocaine, cocaine, and other drugs, as well as gold, diamonds and silver, gift cards and $1,853 in Canadian currency were seized.
The driver, a 36-year-old male from Sturgeon Falls was arrested and is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine and possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
The passenger, a 34-year-old female from Sturgeon Falls was arrested and is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine; possession of property obtained by crime over $5000; and failure to comply with a probation order.
