Local man charged with drug offence
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged one person with a drug offence. On February 11, shortly before 9:00 p.m., Nipissing West OPP observed a known person walking on Nipissing Street. Police arrested the individual for breaching their conditions from a previous release order, and drugs suspected to be methamphetamine were seized during a search of the person.
As a result of the investigation, Andy Hurtubise, 41 years-of-age from West Nipissing, was charged with possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking and failure to comply with a release order. The accused was held for bail court and was scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on February 12, in West Nipissing.
Two charged after break-in
OPP arrested and charged two people after responding to a break and enter. On February 11, shortly after 10:30 a.m., Nipissing West OPP responded to a break and enter at a business on Highway 17 in Markstay-Warren. A witness provided a description of a vehicle leaving the property, and the vehicle was stopped by police on Highway 17.
As a result of the investigation, Nevada Richer-Nettagog and Diamond Trudeau, both aged 21 and from Sudbury, were charged with Break, enter a place – commit indictable offence; Possession of break-in instruments; Failure to comply with an Undertaking; and Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000. Both accused were held for bail court and were scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on February 12, in Sudbury.
Two camper trailers stolen, police ask for public assistance
Police are seeking the public’s assistance in resolving the theft of two camper trailers. On February 7, members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the OPP responded to a theft of two camper trailers from a property on Eugene Road, at a storage facility visible from Hwy 64 en route to Lavigne. Sometime during the evening hours, unknown person(s) attended the property and removed two camper trailers, a 2016 Heartland Torque T32 toy hauler trailer with VIN # 5SFCB3824GE17661, and a 2012 White Catalina deluxe edition 32 foot trailer with Ontario plates X92 87W.
Officers are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the individual(s) involved in the theft or possession of these items. Two charged with drug related offences
Police arrested and charged two people with drug related offences after a traffic stop. On February 2, shortly before 3:00 a.m., members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the OPP stopped a motor vehicle on Front Street, Sturgeon Falls. A search of the vehicle located stolen property and drugs suspected to be cannabis, oxycodone, methamphetamine and cocaine. Jessica Garlick, age 44, and Michael Sabourin, age 43, both from Bonfield, were charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance; Possession of a Schedule II Substance; and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000. Garlick was additionally charged with Driving a vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available. Both accused were released and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on March 7, in North Bay.
Man charged for trespassing
Police arrested and charged one person after receiving a report of trespassing. On January 26, shortly before 5:30 p.m., members of the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an unwanted person on a vacant property along Highway 17, West Nipissing. The unwanted person appeared to be residing on the property.
As a result of the investigation, Steven Joyce, age 34, from West Nipissing was arrested and charged with break, enter a place and mischief. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on March 7, 2024, in North Bay.
