A late-night, two-vehicle collision on Nipissing Street in Sturgeon Falls has resulted in the death of two people, and injuries to several others. According to an Ontario Provincial Police report, the incident occurred at approximately 11:40pm on Saturday, January 24. An initial report from police indicated that a 62-year-old woman from Sudbury was pronounced dead at the scene, while two other occupants of her vehicle sustained minor injuries. The victim was not identified by name and police also refused to comment on the current health status of the other injured parties.

The four occupants of the other vehicle were transported to hospital. In a subsequent release, OPP reported that one of them, a 15-year-old female from West Nipissing, had since succumbed to her injuries. The teen was not identified by police, but a Go Fund Me campaign to help cover funeral costs was set up in support of the family of Peyton McInnis, who is described as “young, full of life, fun-loving, funny and adventurous.” Nearly $6,000 had been raised at press time.

In their most recent news release about the incident, OPP advise that the investigation is still ongoing and ask the public to provide them with any information that could assist. The report also mentions that some content has been circulating on social media. “The OPP is aware of videos and other content circulating on social media related to this incident. We understand the public’s interest and ask members of the public to consider the impact on the victims of this collision and their families before sharing or reposting. Speculation and the circulation of such content can cause additional harm and may interfere with the integrity of the investigation,” reads the news release.
