Step inside the Sturgeon Falls Golden Age Club during any of their scheduled activities, and you are immediately greeted by a vibrant atmosphere of friendship. It is a place where community thrives, and for local seniors looking to stay active and connected, it truly is the place to be.
Just ask Robert “Bob” Dubeau. Taking a quick break as he sits down for a game of cards right before an afternoon shuffleboard activity, Bob reflects on what the club has meant to him over more than two decades. He has been a member for 23 years, and says he just loves going to play cards and connect with people. For Bob, the club has consistently been a fantastic venue to regularly meet up with old friends while continuously making new ones.
Bob’s experience is exactly what the Golden Age Club is all about. “Our mandate is to offer activities, entertainment, services, and sessions to our more than 400 members aged 50 and over,” explains Club Secretary Joanne Vallière. “We try to offer our members affordable experiences that they can participate without having to leave town.”
The energy at the club has been electric so far in 2026. A major highlight of the year was a wildly successful, sold-out interactive murder-mystery theater night. Vallière says the hall was packed and there was “excellent interaction between the actors and participants.”
The momentum isn’t slowing down either. “We are already planning other major events,” she says. “We are constantly being creative with new activities to keep our members excited.”
